The Importance of Localization in The Growing Popularity of Social Media

According to Facebook, they have over 800 million active users. Wow! That is a lot of people checking and posting updates and staying connected with people all over the world. What is also interesting is the fact that more than 75% of Facebook users are outside of the United States and there are more than 70 languages available on the site. In other words, millions of people are using Facebook in a language other than English.

Top 10 Languages on the Internet Today

The growing online presence of languages other than English is reflected in the top languages on the Internet today, according to Internet World Stats. The following are the top 10 languages, in millions:

English (536.6)

Chinese (444.9)

Spanish (153.3)

Japanese (99.1)

Portuguese (82.5)

German (75.2)

Arabic (65.4)

French (59.8)

Russian (59.7)

Korean (39.4)

()

Translate a website into these top 10 languages and you will be able to tap into the majority of the global purchasing power on the Internet. And while English is still the top language, other languages are quickly closing the gap. Companies desiring to succeed globally can no longer survive if they continue to provide products and services exclusively in English, as the astronomical success of Facebook illustrates.

Twitter in Many Languages

Another major player in the growing world of social media is Twitter. Though not nearly as large as Facebook in terms of the number of active users, Twitter has also realized the importance of localization in reaching the largest number of people possible. The Twitter Translation Center allows users who speak various languages to volunteer their time to help localize Twitter and assist in making Twitter more easily accessible globally.

The revamped Translation Center allows any user to sign up, choose a language, and begin translating (the product itself, not the Tweets). At present, Twitter is offered in most of the top 10 languages on the Internet today, including English, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Indonesian, Russian, Portuguese, and Turkish. Recently, Twitter announced the introduction of five new languages: Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Hindi, Filipino and Malay. With these additions, Twitter now fully supports 17 languages and is “more easily accessible to almost half a billion people around the world,” according to the Twitter Blog ().

If social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have localized their content and products in other languages with great success, then it only makes sense that your business should do the same.

What Is Social CRM And Social Monitoring

If you own your own business and are looking for strategies to drive sales, chances are you would have come across the term social customer relationship management (Social CRM). Social CRM is a strategy focused on customer engagement and interaction, rather than directly driving sales. There are a range of specific tools and software that can be used. But remember, that it is an evolution of CRM that has been around for decades, so Social CRM still involves a back-end system for managing customer relationships through data collection for more efficiency and better targeting – and ultimately drives sales. The particular strategy and tools used for social CRM depends on the needs and goals the organization is trying to accomplish.

What is Social CRM?

Social CRM is defined by Paul Greenberg author of “CRM at the Speed of Light” as:

“…designed to engage the customer in a collaborative conversation in order to provide a mutually beneficial value in a trusted and transparent business environment. It’s the company response to the customer’s owning of the relationship.”

An authority on the subject Michael Fauschette explains that it is:

“Social CRM are the tools and processes that encourage better, more effective customer interaction and leverage the collective intelligence of the broader customer community with the intended result of increasing intimacy between an organization and its prospects and customers. The goal is to make the relationship with the customer more intimate and tied to the company by building a public ecosystem to better understand what they want and how they interact with the various company touchpoints like sales, customer service etc…”

So what does this all mean?, the the real difference is control and communication. In social CRM, the company does not fully control the brand, rather it is more like a joint partnership between them and the customer and two-way communication between customers and companies are emphasized over simple interactions to drive transactions.

Social CRM is driven by the customer. Companies can no longer push out one-sided messages to customers, but rather they must to communicate directly with customers and develop relationships to encourage them to become customer advocates. Customers now have say in the most appropriate processes, businesses, channels to use, interactions and referrals between customers to drive sales (as opposed to the business solely driving sales and so on. Despite being known as customer relationship management, the old CRM strategy, ignored the interactions from customers in driving internal processes and strategies.

How CRM evolved into Social CRM

CRm evolved into Social CRM due to the invention of the internet and the growth of social networks. Customers now have access to an abundance of information available to enable them to determine which products and services are best for their needs. Therefore companies had to jump on the social media management and social monitoring bandwagon to capitalize on this opportunity. Social CRM allows your brand to stand out from the neverending list of competitors in your product or service category. Cone Business who conducted a social media study and discovered that the reason consumers decided to choose conduct business with a specific company are:

– 60% of Americans intereacted with companies through social media on a regular basis- 43% of consumers want companies to interact with them on social networks to solve an issue they were experiencing.- Before buying recommended products or services, over 81% of consumers conduct online research and/or review the product or service.

It can be challenging for businesses to meet the constantly evolving needs of these social customers and trying to convert your followers and fans into customers and advocates, but remember that the results are incredibly rewarding. Particularly when you look at the abundance of social media statistics that reveal that social marketing along with other forms of online marketing is much more cost effective than traditional, mass media marketing. It also has the advantage of being much more targeted so there is less wastage of marketing dollars. Spend some time finding the best strategy for your business in terms of social monitoring and social media management through Social CRM systems and begin reaping the rewards.

How to Boost Your Instagram Followers to Increase Your Social Output 3

Aside pinterest, the Instagram mobile application is another major social networking application that is rapidly gaining popularity and awareness; currently averaging 80 million worldwide users. Not a bad start owing that is mainly a mobile only service.

For you to build a reasonable numbers of fans in Instagram, you will have to follow some tested and proven strategies although it is unfortunate to say this; the best course of action is usually not an easy one!

Snap and Upload captivating photos (Simple!)

At first, your basic concern ought to be the creation of appealing pictures. The basis for this is that people have the propensity of following accounts that only display the most appealing and striking snap shots. This makes sense and is frequently lost on marketers who are looking to crack a new social field. Customers don’t care if you are Nike or Adidas or even Facebook or their favorite football group their main aim of being on instagram is to surf images and photographs that catches their fancy.

For this purpose, you need to come up with a clever strategy every time you are out shooting new photos.

As a rule of thumb, you should endeavor to avoid taking irrelevant or trite pictures, which are commonly seen by people every day. In the word of Nick Bilton who works for the New York Times, (his Instagram account has more than fifty thousand followers) “people are more likely to admire you for quality over quantity – yes you may well take a fancy picture of your Starbucks cup but if I don’t know who you are and your photo is generic, I won’t be monitoring you. At instagram, “think quality” rules!

Publishing superb and average photos at the same time may not be a very good thing to do because the mediocre photos can act as a turn off to your visitors – a user on Instagram is 40% more liable to un-follow you than on twitter as there is less social engagement.

For those that have huge collection of attractive photos on their account, it’s advisable for not them not to post all at once but should post them at regular intervals. By so doing, it will keep the interest of your followers abreast and induce them to keep coming back for more interesting photographs. It is like telling a story to your child. You probably won’t spill the whole tale at the introduction, rather you will reveal bit by bit to retain his/her interest and attention.

Reciprocate gestures by also following other users

It is a common practice even with other social networking sites like twitter; people are more generally going to also follow those that follow them. So if you require users of the Instagram app to follow you, you must also do same by following them. Please note! Don’t follow others just for the mere sake of following, else just like twitter – you will end up with followers who are not into you. For your information, one engaged follower is worth a thousand none.

Like and post comments on nice images

The common currency of Instagram is the “like.” One sure way of gaining followers is by simply liking others pictures. Just by liking their images, your photos will also eventually get noticed and also receive comment/likes from them

Make use of popular Hashtags

Hashtags in a nut shell is the concept that let the users of Instagram to group a number of photos together. One sure way of making certain that your photographs receive lots of publicity is by tagging them. For example, if you possess a sunset picture, you can tag it with a popular #sunset tag so that it will be available with other photos that have the same tag (twitter anyone?). The theory is that people will search in areas that interest them #cat #icecream #olympics.

Facebook Releases Smart Lists Feature to Group Friends

Social-networking behemoth Facebook has added a new feature to its popular social network that would allow users to categorize groups of friends.

A user can share photos, posts and links with these smaller, isolated groups of Facebook friends exclusively.

Beginning Wednesday, the new feature will allow Facebook users to manage list of friends, providing them with the option to share their embarrassing photos or other personals information with a particular person or a group of friends rather than all of their hundreds of friends.

Organize friends in Smart Lists:- The automatically generated so-called Smart Lists feature divides a user’s Facebook friends into subgroups with whom that person could share photos, posts and updates in more easier way.

The new privacy tool is partly automated, meaning, using the profile information Facebook will automatically group your friends based on whether they live in your city, went to your school or work with you, the lists can also be edited if the automatic system gets it wrong. “Users don’t really want to spend a lot of time creating and maintaining friend lists,” said Naomi Gleit, the director of product at Facebook who worked on the ‘Smart Lists’ feature.

Beginning Wednesday, the new ‘Friends List’ feature will allow Facebook users to manage list of friends, providing them with the option to share their embarrassing photos or other personals info with a particular person or a group of friends rather than all of their hundreds of friends.

Lists are customizable:- The feature is optional and the lists are customizable. Facebook users can create their own friend groups, based on hobbies, work projects or relatives.

For instance, categorizing people as “close friends” will ensure that you will see every post and photo from pals you care about the most. Updates from people in this category will feature more prominently in your news feed and a user can opt to receive email notifications every time they post something on Facebook, Gleit said.

Contrary to that, those listed as “acquaintances” will feature less prominently on your Facebook page, and you will see only major announcements, such as marriages and new babies, from them.

“You have all sorts of different shades of gray in terms of how you interact with people,” said Mike Schroepfer, Vice President of Engineering at Facebook. “We wanted to make sure the product had a richer set of tools to allow people to control that experience.”

Smart List option aimed at Google +’s Circle feature:- The latest move by Palo Alto, California-based Facebook, with more than 750 million users, seems to be aimed directly at Google+’s Circles feature, which lets users place friends into groups. The new privacy tool is partly automated, meaning, using the profile information Facebook will automatically group your friends based on whether they live in your city, went to your school or work with you, the lists can also be edited if the automatic system gets it wrong.

Debuted in June, Google Plus had about 29 million users at the end of July, as estimated by ComScore Inc.

Social Media Legal Counsel Protecting People Against Social Media Abuse

Social networking websites have gained tremendous popularity during the last few years. Everyone seems to be on Facebook, Orkut, Twitter, and other social networking websites. Those who are not there are looked down upon by those who are on these websites. This immense increase in the popularity of the internet and the social websites has given rise to the need of good manners and etiquettes on the social websites by the users so that no one is offended by their remarks and comments. This is even more important because people have been sued by others for making defamatory and derogatory comments about them.

The first thing that you must remember when you are on any of the social websites is to think about the possible consequence of what you are writing. It would be highly prudent to think before you type. A written word can be very damaging in the court of law and can land you in jail or make you pay hefty compensations. Always verify the facts before writing something about someone. Baseless accusations just for the sake of making accusations can lead to a big trouble for you. social media legal counsel is being provided by many firms these days and one can obviously take their service to act against you if you do something mischievous. If you want to write something that could go against the image of somebody or may be thought as controversial, it would be better to wait for at least 24 hours. Think about it thoroughly and then take a decision.

This time gap will help you in thinking and writing more objectively. Always think how a judge or your child would react to what you have written. The language that you use will automatically become inoffensive. Avoid responding to provoking or inflammatory language immediately as there is always a danger of your losing temper and using foul language yourself. If you feel that your response is necessary, always try the 24-hour delay rule. This will help you in getting your thought process back on the track before you write something on the website. Another thing that you can do if someone uses defamatory and abusive language against you is to get social media legal counsel. There are many social media law firms around and you can seek any one of them for legal help regarding such matters.
